Built for record books, not for an exit.
The record book is free because agricultural education should be accessible to every student.
Why the record book is free
Paid plans are what fund it: the servers, the storage, the development and the support behind the record book. Nobody has to buy one to keep records. A plan adds the AI that writes them for you, and that is the only thing being sold.
A student shouldn't lose a season of records because a subscription lapsed, and an advisor shouldn't have to find money in a chapter budget for something this basic. The record book being free is the point, not a trial. A paid plan adds the AI that fills it in for you; it does not unlock the records themselves.
How itâs funded
Nobody has to pay to keep records. The record book is free and entered by hand; a plan is what lets you say it or photograph it instead, and that is what pays for servers, storage, backups and development time.
What happens to your records

Will it still be here next spring?
It's a fair question to ask before you put a season of work into something. Goatie is built and maintained by a small team, the running costs are modest, and the funding model above is designed so the free tier doesn't depend on any one customer. If Goatie ever had to shut down, we would give notice and provide a full export of your records before anything was switched off.
